Agoge Game Academy was started by Nathan and Daniel Rosell. It was started in October 2018 and has been growing ever since. One day when we were meeting to play some board games we started talking about creating board games and how fun that would be. That one idea blew up into the company it is today where we not only make board games, but we also create the most abundant resource available to game creators and game lovers alike.
Why did we pick the name Agoge?
Agoge was the program mandated for every male Spartan, that when completed, meant being welcomed into the Spartan Army and becoming a real citizen of Sparta. Boys began this rigorous program when they were young, which enabled them to have more time to learn and perfect their skills. The Agoge program was able to produce some of the most effective warriors known in history. Their dedication to winning and ability to figure out new strategies and approaches to warfare were groundbreaking – which set them apart from everyone else.
We decided to use the name of “Agoge” because we are so impressed by their ability work harder than anyone else – as well as use problem-solving creativity – to produce truly outstanding results. Obviously, we aren’t producing a physical army, and we have no desire to be the best warriors. But we certainly can take some of that mental fortitude and find a way to be the very best we can. We can provide the very best products and the very best information for those that take a chance on us.
What is the Logo?
The logo for our company is the same symbol that the Spartans had on their flags. The Spartans were such great warriors that, when they went into combat, the opposing armies would see this symbol and immediately fear it. They knew exactly what the symbol was and what happened to those that attempted to fight the Spartans.
We took the symbol of the Spartans because, like them, we want to gain the same respect and honor that they gained from their strategy and approach to warfare. Though our respect and honor will look a little different. Instead of people fearing our logo, we want our work product to be such that when people see our logo, they know exactly what they are getting. They know that the products will be second to none and the information will be completely accurate.
What we strive to produce
At Agoge Game Academy, we strive to do two specific things
1) We strive to produce tabletop games that are entertaining, simple and beautiful. We love games, and we know we’re not alone. So producing games that are fun to play, easy to learn and nice to look at can hopefully bring a little more joy to a lot of lives. If we’ve succeed in that, we are happy.
2) We strive to create a resource for game creators that is both accurate and useful. Information that game creators will be using is only valuable if it is accurate. So making sure it is correct is absolutely vital. Similarly, information also needs to be useful. No one wants to spend their time reading pages of information that won’t help them move forward and get things done. We take special precaution to ensure the topics we write on are useful to those searching for information.
Like any business, Agoge Game Academy is subject to change; As we grow, our focus will likely grow with us. That might mean drilling down further into these categories, and it might mean pivoting into others.
